This exhibit marks the opening for research of eight collections of 20th century women activists: the papers of Constance Baker Motley, Dorothy Kenyon, Mary Kaufman, Frances Fox Piven, Jessie Lloyd O’Connor, and Gloria Steinem and the records of the Women’s Action Alliance and the National Congress of Neighborhood Women.
The Black Women’s Suffrage Digital Collection is a collaborative project to provide digital access to materials documenting the roles and experiences of Black Women in the Women’s Suffrage Movement and, more broadly, women’s rights, voting rights, and civic activism between the 1850s and 1960. The materials in this collection include photographs, correspondence, speeches, event programs, publications, oral histories, and other artifacts.
The Women Who Changed Atlanta and the World exhibit features the work of two prominent women-led organizations, the Chautauqua Circle and the Neighborhood Union. Members of both organizations advocated for Black welfare and improvement of societal conditions in Atlanta.
